At the center of the Muses is their mother, Mnemosyne, the Titan goddess of memory. In Greek mythology, Zeus and Mnemosyne became the parents of the nine Muses, each representing a different form of artistic or intellectual inspiration. Memory was seen as the foundation of knowledge, storytelling, and creative expression, allowing ideas and histories to be carried from one generation to the next.
This project explores six of the nine Muses alongside Mnemosyne, reimagining their identities through a contemporary visual lens. While each Muse represents a distinct form of inspiration, Mnemosyne represents the source from which they emerge: memory, remembrance, and the preservation of creativity itself.
The Muses have long embodied the forces behind artistic expression, each representing a distinct form of creativity and knowledge. Drawing from six of the nine Muses, Urania, Calliope, Erato, Thalia, Euterpe, and Clio. Each Muse becomes a study in a different form of inspiration, from music and poetry to love, comedy, history, and the cosmos.
